How to stop being indecisive?

You have a decision to make but you’re afraid that it might turn out bad and it’s driving you crazy!
Making decisions is an integral part of your life. From choosing what to wear and where to eat to finding the right partner and selecting a career, decisions are inevitable.
Why is it so hard to make decisions?
Indecisiveness in women is a much debated topic. Women excel at so many roles as mothers, care takers, business owners and their brilliance is often commendable - always working hard, always trying to do the right thing. But then the question is why do women often struggle with creating a life on purpose? Where’s the disconnect that gives birth to indecisiveness and self doubt?
The science behind decision-making
Before you begin to uncover the reasons for your indecisiveness it’s important to know how the decision-making process works. Making decisions is a complex thinking process which requires you to choose the best options available based on the data reserves of your memory, risk assessment, motives and reasoning.
Lizard brain and indecisiveness
Your indecisiveness also has a lot to do with your primitive brain or the lizard brain. Your primitive brain always runs in a survival mode and in order to ensure your safety it pushes you towards indecision and inaction.
Whenever you are in a situation to make important life choices your lizard brain literally freaks out. It evaluates every new situation as a death threat because it doesn’t have any past experiences to rely upon. Hence, the thoughts generating from your lizard brain will constantly tell you that waiting, stalling and not coming to a decision is your best bid at survival.
How to tame your lizard brain?
The great thing here is that you can control your lizard brain. With training and practice you can dissociate yourself from the lower brain thoughts in order to seek empowerment and clarity when making decisions.

How to lift off the curse of indecision?
Indecisiveness if left unattended can become one of the biggest cause of your unhappiness. Chronic indecisiveness sabotages your ability to live your life on purpose. If you keep putting off making decisions or not making a decision at all, you strip yourself from your right of choice and end up living your life by default. In order to accomplish your goals you need to take decisions promptly and stand by them.
Here are three steps that you can practice in your daily life to make quick decisions while allowing yourself the freedom to change course at any given time.
Step 1 : Don’t fear the outcome
First and foremost, you need to stop being afraid of the outcome. You need to think beyond the ideas of right and wrong. There is no bad decision. For every decision you make, either you get the desired results or you gain experience and knowledge for the future. So it’s a win-win situation.
Step 2 : Act in the moment
Pending decisions deplete you of your positive energy and drive you away from your goals. Stop waiting for the perfect time and let go of the need for complete certainty. Just put yourself out there – decide and commit, embrace the discomfort and uncertainty, put your brilliance to work for you.
Step 3 : Trust your intuition
Avoiding decisions only brings you more of what you don’t want. And if you learn to trust your instincts and just go with them it will create empowerment and clarity. Fear is just a part of process and more importantly it’s merely an uncomfortable emotion. It does not prove that things won’t work out.
A final note!
The key here is to not get overwhelmed by the idea of choosing and deciding. Play to your strengths and incorporate them into your decision-making process. You might stumble at first but you can get better with practice and conscious thought work. You can train your brain to think differently.
Remember, your thoughts create your results. To reach your goal, make decisions faster and have your own back you just need to consciously pick a thought that serves your purpose. I have discussed these ideas in great detail in my podcast about decision-making. You can listen to it by following the link given below.
