Busy but NOT Productive!

What if somebody asked you today: “How are you?”
And without putting much thought in your answer you just say “BUSY”!
There’s nothing wrong with you. It’s the just our current culture. Most of us often describe our current state as ‘being busy’ because that’s exactly how we FEEL. In a fast-paced world like today, being busy is considered some ‘badge of honor’ or a trophy that constantly reminds you that you are doing well with your life. More so, being busy is quickly turning into a survival instinct. But think again!
Don’t confuse ‘Busyness’ with ‘Fruitfulness’. These two things are worlds apart when you begin to parse out the difference between being busy and being productive.
If you often fret and complain about your plate being too full and your to do list that never seems to end then we are sorry to break it to you that your are just busy and NOT productive. It’s never really about how much work you are doing but what purpose that exactly serves and your efficiency in tackling things related to your personal and professional life.
Another thing that overwhelms people is that they correlate multi tasking with the utmost level of productivity. For instance, if you meet a calendar junkie who has something scheduled for every minute of the day and you’d immediately think that it’s incredible how productive he is! But is he really productive? Productive people are also busy but it’s definitely not the other way around. And in most cases multitasking might even translate into interrupted productivity because you have so much on your mind that instead of doing one important task properly, you are just all over the place.
See, the thing is you can’t always avoid being busy. Life is unpredictable. Things happen. Schedules are cramped up. Sometimes the urgent crowds up the important. But the key here is not to prioritize your schedule but to schedule your priorities. And when we focus on the things that really matter, we are more likely to be productive and not busy. Not only that, when you really start practicing how to invest your precious time into things that would give you true joy and fulfillment, you’d realize that you are missing out on all the good things in life!
Now, some of you might question that all these facts sound really cool and fancy in theory but how do we actually implement it in our daily lives? Is there a method that might actually work? The answer is YES!
Head straight on Dr. Kanwal Akhtar’s podcast where she explains how “Busyness” is nothing more than a mind construct and once you learn to banish that evil word from your mental dictionary how liberating would you actually feel!
